The Society of the Sacred Heart celebrates the launch of the 2020 Goals and Criteria for Sacred Heart Schools in the United States – Canada Province.
The Goals and Criteria for the Sacred Heart Schools in the United States – Canada Province defines the mission of Sacred Heart schools as part of the Society’s educational mission in the Catholic Church. The re-visioning of this mission statement by educators and RSCJ across the province occurs every 15 years. This fourth edition, as have the earlier ones, declares what is essential to the vitality of our founder Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat’s charism and articulates the mission that she knew was transformational: the discovery and revelation of God’s love in the heart of the world through service of education.
During the Zoom celebration of the launch of the 2020 Goals and Criteria, Provincial Sheila Hammond, RSCJ, shared a reflection in which she emphasized that “the emerging criteria reflect not only the challenges of the day but also creativity and hope. These are criteria born of a global mindset seeking pathways to beauty, truth, compassion and community.” Sister Hammond went on to say, “what we articulate is the reflection of God’s work as we understand them now ... we and our goals and criteria act as mirrors. The criteria help us to become that which we reflect.”
