Religious of the Sacred Heart Irene Mary Cotter died Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Teresian House, the Society of the Sacred Heart’s elder care center in Albany, New York. Her life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass on Monday, December 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the Teresian House chapel. A private burial will be in the Society of the Sacred Heart cemetery at Kenwood.Born in Boston, Massachusetts, May 30, 1922, she was the daughter of James Augustine Cotter and Mary Veronica Cotter. A graduate of Newton Country Day School, Sr. Cotter entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1942 at Kenwood, in Albany, New York. Her early years in the Society found her teaching in the Sacred Heart Schools in Greenwich, New York City, Albany and Philadelphia. While at Greenwich, she worked as an admission coordinator of hundreds of low income children to the Convent of the Sacred Heart Greenwich Summer Outreach Program. She then went on to work in the infirmary at Kenwood where her mother, affectionately known as “Momo,” also spent some time. Sr. Cotter then worked for several years in the financial office of the New York Province before moving on to being portress at Greenwich. She developed a close and faithful relationship with the Kenwood Braille Society, where she was a moderator and spiritual supporter for a number of years. Her later years were spent working in the development office at 91st Street, in the business office and in outreach and development. Predeceased by her parents, two brothers and her sister, Ronnie Cotter, RSCJ, Sr. Cotter is survived by her cousin, Sally McKenney Branon; nephews, Ryan Branon and Brendan Branon; and niece, Elizabeth Branon of Princeton, New Jersey; and her sisters in the Society of the Sacred Heart.
