Internationality has been so much a part of the Society of the Sacred Heart throughout its history, and is one of our defining characteristics today. In this 20th anniversary issue of Heart magazine, we take a look back at the origins of Heart and explore, today, the many ways the Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) are living and building the future of the Sacred Heart mission with and across different generations.
“Walking into the Future Together With Courage and Confidence” was the theme of the United States – Canada Province Assembly that took place in July 2022. This theme continues throughout the pages of this Heart magazine issue. With the changes of the last year has come adaptation and emergence into something new. This year has brought about many unexpected changes, from the way we work, teach, communicate and spend time with one another. The COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the renewed call to anti-racism work, shifted our focus for this issue of Heart magazine. In this issue we cover province programs that took place pre-pandemic, get a glimpse into how Network of Sacred Heart schools transitioned to virtual learning, and contemplate our call to racial justice in light of the Feast of the Sacred Heart coinciding with Juneteenth.
