Province welcomes Karla Reyes as young adult and vocation ministry assistant

May 5, 2023

Karla speaks during the SacredHeartDNA in-person launch in St. Louis.

This past January, Karla Reyes joined the staff of Society of the Sacred Heart United States – Canada Province and began working for the Province’s Young Adult and Vocation Ministry Office.

In her role as young adult and vocation ministry assistant, Karla works with Director Reyna González, RSCJ, bringing a new generational and diverse intercultural perspective to the province’s young adult and vocation outreach programs.

Born in Indianapolis, Karla is Mexican American as she spent most of her childhood in Mexico. She said that this experience allowed her to grow up between two cultures and develop a multicultural perspective on life.

Karla holds a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology with a minor in international studies from Texas State University. At just 20 years old, she graduated as one of the youngest members in her class, Suma cum laude, a testament to her dedication and hard work.

At university Karla worked as a resident assistant, gaining valuable skills and experience mentoring and working with young adults, developing strong communication and problem-solving skills as well as a deep understanding of the needs and concerns of her peers.

In her current role, Karla has worked predominantly on the Young Adult and Vocation Ministry Office’s most recent initiative, SacredHeartDNA, which officially launched this past February. Her passion for anthropology and her unique perspective and experiences have allowed her to approach this work with fresh insights and innovative ideas.

Karla also shared that she strives to continue exploring and contributing meaningfully to the study of culture and society, a passion she is sure will complement her work with the Society of the Sacred Heart and help make a significant impact on current as well as future province initiatives geared toward young adults.
