Joan Gannon, RSCJ stands with the immigrant community

Betty Nakato, RSCJ, and Joan Gannon, RSCJ, were among those featured in a social media campaign celebrating the myriad ways women religious and their supporters stand up for social justice in our communities. The “Stand With Sisters” campaign ran during National Catholic Sisters Week (March 8-14) and continued throughout the remainder of the month.

Ministries highlighted include those of sisters like Sister Gannon working with people affected by immigration, poverty, human trafficking, racism, homelessness, LGBTQ issues, incarceration and other injustices. Video, photos and personal narratives from sisters and laypeople who work with and/or support sisters have been and continued to be shared across the social media accounts of participating congregations. The material is also featured on stlcatholicsisters.org, a website of the St. Louis Communicators for Catholic Sisters, the group that created the campaign.

The St. Louis area communicators group and the Society of the Sacred Heart invite all who have been touched by sisters and their good works to join the conversation and share their stories by using the campaign’s hashtag #StandWithSisters.

Also, we invite you to “like” and share “#StandWithSisters” posts from participating congregations to help them reach a wider audience.

In addition to the Society, participating congregations are: Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent DePaul, Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, Franciscan Sisters of Mary, Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Sisters of Loretto, Sisters of the Most Precious Blood of O’Fallon and Ursuline Sisters of the Central Province. In concert with the launching of the social media campaign, five billboards around the St. Louis metro area will carry messages in support of the promotion.
