We fully endorse the statement from the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) calling upon the Biden Administration to fulfill its promise to increase the number of refugees resettled in the United States to 62,500 this fiscal year.

The priority theme was “Women's full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.”

I was raised Catholic by a deeply devoted mother who during my early years worked as a director of religious education. My childhood was accompanied by "What Would Jesus Do?" bracelets, cartoon movies depicting the lives of the saints and my classmates calling me "church girl."

The fruit of our discernment is our decision to appoint Nat Wilburn as head of the Conference of Sacred Heart Education.

Last Tuesday we were heart-broken to learn of the deadly shootings in Georgia. Eight people were killed, and six of them were Asian women. We mourn the loss of each person, and we condemn all violence committed against Asians, especially Asian women.

I met Alma and her 7-year-old son Abraham at a rally and car caravan last year on May Day in Concord, California, in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
